A Clinical Study of 2% Topical Minoxidil Therapy in Male Pattern Baldness

Abstract
The effect of 2% Minoxidil lotion on 30 patients of male pattern baldness who visited the Department of Dermatology, Ewha Woman¡¯s University Hospital was investigated by photo-examination and physical examination every 2 weeks. The patients were treated with topical application of 1 ml of 2% topical Minoxidil twice a day for 6 months. The effect was assessed by the appearance of vellus hairs or terminal hairs on the previously bald areas.
The results were as follows:
1. A total of 30 patients with male pattern baldness was treated with 2% topical minoxidillotions for 24 weeks. The therapeutic effect above minimal improvement was 70.0%.
2. The shorter the time between the onset of baldness and use of the topical minoxidil solution, the better therapeutic effect.
3. No serious systemic or cutaneous side effects were noted during the observation period.
